Unread post by Alkis30 » 15 Nov 2008, 14:34

Please help me !!! I just bought my wonderful ASUS EeePC 1000H (Intel Atom 1.6, 2GB RAM, 320GB hard disk) with Windows XP SP3 and I installed emuControlCenter. But when I try to load it , after 20 seconds of loading it says "ECC (1004) Ecc could not start-up! :-(,closing..." and it closes !!!!! What's wrong with it ??????

Hi Alkis30,

The problem is, that ECC Startup (ecc.exe) cannot find the ECC Screen (PHP-GTK window), it means php did crash somewhere, so:

- If there is an error.log in the ECC root folder, the please place the contents here!
- Wich version of ECC do you use?

@Alkis30,

What is the pathname you have installed ECC to?, because it could be a bug with an unsupported string...

@Alkis30,

Can you give us the pathname where you have installed ECC to in the first time?, so we can prevent this in the feature.

Looks like Greek to me :lmfao:

@Andreas,
Is there any way to prevent a crash with these characters?

Re: Error message "ECC (1004) ECC could not start

Unread post by ECC » 06 Jan 2009, 20:20

Hm,
this is stupid, i think, i need the mb string functions to detect the charset of the path. Hm, not good, because this extension is 1.8MB!
I cant add this to a wip, because otherwise all users use 8.3 paths internal, and this isnt tested. Dont know if this works with the relative path mechanism in the user folder aso.

PLEASE TEST THIS... MAYBE THIS HAVE SIDEEFFECTS

PLEASE ONLY TRY THIS, IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH YOUR USERFOLDER (Russian, Greek users)

can you add this to your ecc.php file?

Search for this line (LINE 19 in ecc.php)

Code: Select all

if(!defined('ECC_DIR')) define('ECC_DIR', realpath(dirname(__FILE__).DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR.ECC_DIR_OFFSET)); # contains basepath of ecc
And replace this line with this codeblock:

Code: Select all

require_once('manager/cOs.php');
$eccBaseFile = realpath(dirname(__FILE__).DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR.ECC_DIR_OFFSET.'/ecc.exe');
$eccBaseDirectory = dirname(Os::getEightDotThreePath($eccBaseFile));
if(!defined('ECC_DIR')) define('ECC_DIR', $eccBaseDirectory); # contains basepath of ecc
#if(!defined('ECC_DIR')) define('ECC_DIR', realpath(dirname(__FILE__).DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR.ECC_DIR_OFFSET)); # contains basepath of ecc

Awnsers i did't get:

- Do these users need the extension?
- What is the name? php_mbstring.dll?
- This dll is not included in ECC installations...

And what's 1.8 UNCOMPRESSED --> 400 KB compressed...no BIG deal ;), we can include this!

First of all, we should test, if this fix works for these characters in the paths.

And we should test, if emuControlCenter is than working stable.

If this works and all is tested, we can add php_mbstring and i can try to detect the characters of the folder and only use 8.3 paths, if these will cause problems.

Yes, but where can a user get the php_mbstring.dll to test your idea?

Ahhh ok, now i understand i think... this is 'hardcoded' instead of using 'php_mbstring' to autodetect...am i right?

Yup, its hardcoded :-) So dont add this to the wips... maybe we can add a fixed ecc.php here... so the people can download it here to try it. Not everybody can patch it!

@Alkis30,

Can you try installing ECC to:

Code: Select all

"C:\Documents and Settings\ΑΛΚΗΣ ΤΣΕΠΑΠΑΔΑΚΗΣ\emuControlCenter\"
And patch ECC with the above code that Andreas has given, so we know if the patch works...

Tested the codeblock with ECC v1.14, it seem to work with all languages, so implementing this by default! :yes_head:
